The CISCE on Tuesday decided to cancel Class 12 board examinations this year in view of the COVID-19 situation, according to its secretary Gerry Arathoon. "The exams have been cancelled. The alternative assessment criteria will be announced soon," Mr Arathoon told PTI.

The decision by Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) came on the lines of cancellation of the board exams by CBSE, which was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It was decided that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will take steps to compile the results of Class 12 students as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.

The prime minister asserted that the decision has been taken in the interest of students and that the anxiety among students, parents and teachers must be put to an end.

The CICSE had last week asked its affiliated schools to submit data, including average of marks obtained by Class 12 students in Class 11 and during this session.

The board had postponed Class 12 exams which were scheduled from May 4 in light of the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Haryana Board Exam 2021 Update : Haryana State Board Cancels Class 12th Exams 2021

2 June, 2021, 9:13 am

The Haryana government has decided to cancel the Class 12 exams conducted by the state board, Education Minister Kanwar Pal said on Tuesday. The decision came shortly after the central government announced cancelling the CBSE Class 12 board exams amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have also decided to cancel the Class 12 board exams in the state which were to be conducted by the Haryana Board of School Education," Mr Pal told PTI over phone.

"We are going with the decision taken by the Centre and have decided to cancel the board exams," he said.

The state Board will take steps to compile the results of Class 12 students and modalities for this will be worked out soon, he added.

The decision to cancel the CBSE exams was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Government of India has decided to cancel the Class 12 CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth," the prime minister tweeted after the meeting.

Anxiety among students, parents and teachers must be put to an end, and students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation, a government statement quoted the prime minister as saying.

Earlier on April 15, the Haryana government had cancelled the Class 10 board exams which were to be conducted by the state board. It had then decided to postpone the exams of Class 12.

The state board exams were earlier scheduled to start in April and continue till mid-May before these were cancelled for Class 10 and postponed for Class 12.

Haryana saw a sharp increase in coronavirus cases over the past few weeks. However, infections have been on the decline in the last few days.

CBSE Board Exam 2021 Update : CBSE Class 12 Board Exams 2021 Cancelled

2 June, 2021, 9:06 am

Class 12 board exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have been cancelled.

There will be no Class 12 board exams this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday, ending weeks of anxiety among students and parents over the Covid situation in the country. The decision was taken because of “uncertain conditions” due to COVID-19 and based on feedback from different stakeholders, said his office.

“Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

“The health and safety of our students is of utmost importance and there will be no compromise on this aspect," said the statement, quoting PM Modi.

Both CBSE and CISCE Class 12 exams have been cancelled.

“Government of India has decided to cancel the Class XII CBSE Board Exams. After extensive consultations, we have taken a decision that is student-friendly, one that safeguards the health as well as future of our youth,” PM Modi tweeted.

The CBSE will now take steps to compile the results of Class 12 students according to “well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner”, the PMO release said. Like last year, students who still want to take the exams will be given a chance when the situation improves, said the government.

The decision was announced shortly after PM Modi’s meeting with key ministers and officials from various related ministries and stakeholders.

“COVID-19 has affected the academic calendar and the subject of board exams was causing immense anxiety among students, parents and teachers, which had to be put to an end,” said the PMO statement.

The decision comes two days ahead of a Supreme Court hearing in which the Centre is expected to file its reply on a petition seeking exactly this. The court had posted the hearing to June 3 after the Centre requested time.

At a meeting on May 23, the CBSE had recommended that the exams be held between July 15 and August 26. It also suggested two options: regular exams in 19 major subjects at notified centres and shorter-duration exams at schools where the students are enrolled.

A majority of states had favoured holding the exam, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal had said after that meeting. Mr Pokhriyal was on Tuesday admitted to AIIMS hospital in Delhi with post-Covid complications.

As many 1.40 lakh students of science stream and 5.43 lakh of general stream (arts and commerce) are expected to write the exam, the minister said. To ensure social distancing, only 20 students will be accommodated in one exam hall, said Mr Chudasama, adding all SOPs related to the pandemic will be strictly followed during the exams.

The government will increase the number of exam centres and exam halls and students will be allotted exam centres nearer to their residence to avoid travel, the minister said.

Students who miss the exam due to COVID-19 will be allowed to reappear after 25 days with a new set of question papers, the minister added.

The Education Ministry on Sunday asked state boards to submit detailed suggestions on Class 12 board exams by May 25. A decision for these students will be taken at the earliest, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said on Sunday.
